Enright 是繼 Iris Murdoch (1978) 之後，第二位獲得曼布克獎殊榮的愛爾蘭女性作家。評審團主席 Howard Davies 如此描述 The Gathering：
...an unflinching look at a grieving family. It’s the bleakness of one woman’s vision, a bleakness rooted in her family, her marriage and the death of her brother.

決選名單中除了 McEwan 以外，我比較有興趣的是 Lloyd Jones 的 Mister Pip。(Pip 是 Charles Dickens 的小說 Great Expectations 中的主人翁；這本小說曾被 Alfonso Cuarón 翻拍成電影《烈愛風雲》。)
